I have returned to writing my debut novel, Above a Bakery in Belgium: On Leaving and Becoming.

What does it really mean when I say that I have returned to it?

  • For starters, I’m reading other novels grounded in speculative realism before I truly pick up writing it again. This is to immerse myself more deeply in the genre to carry it forward in my work.
  • I’m also traveling to the protagonist’s places and spending time with the friends and family he grew up with during his mobile journey. Who says fiction writing can’t be a real and global journey of exploration and connection? I think it can be whatever we make it, and why not make it an enlightening cultural journey retracing some of the central character’s steps?

Stay tuned, as there will be photos.
